all one big mess
"In the beginning, when God created the heavens and the earth, the earth was a formless wasteland, and darkness covered the abyss, while a mighty wind swept over the waters." —Genesis 1:1-2
The Lord begins the Bible with the words, "in the beginning." However, this is not the very beginning, for the earth and the waters already exist. The Bible begins with creation — not meaning the bringing of something into existence but the ordering in harmony of what already exists.
Is your life "a formless wasteland" and a dark abyss? (Gn 1:2) In other words, is your life a "big mess"? If so, you need the Lord to create harmonious order out of your mess.
Life naturally tends to be messy. Messes naturally tend to become more messy until life is "all a mess." From the house to the marriage to the family to the job to the church to the nation, for many people it's "all one big mess." Life can seem so hopeless. However, the Lord's message in the very first verses of the Bible is that He began creation by transforming "one big mess," and He'll do it again and again. Our Creator is the Lord of the messes. Thank You, Lord!
